Dream Test Part 3

Here are two more questions in the Dream Test series. Go here to see Part One and Part Two.

Is it really your dream that God gave YOU? This is about ownership. I think too many people want to jump on the latest fad or cool thing to do. Honestly, I think church planting is becoming the "cool" thing to do in the church world. If God has called YOU to start a church then do it! Please don't do it because you want to be the next NorthPoint, NewSpring, LifeChurch, or just fill in the blank. You will never be them AND God doesn't want you to be them. God wants you to be YOU!

I remember when we first arrived in San Diego. A few of us met with a church planter that had been here a few years. He asked, "So what model are you?" I asked what he meant by that and he said "you know like Rick Warren's Purpose Driven, Bill Hybel's seeker-sensitive, or something like that." I tried answering the question then just stopped and said I guess we don't really have a particular model. I got a blank stare from him in return. I left that meeting thinking what was wrong with us. I started to think we need to find a "church planting model" and I remember God speaking to my heart "You don't need a model. Kevin, you need me."

We should definitely learn from others and transfer principles when feasible but be who God has uniquely created YOU to be. Do what He has called you to do.

Does your dream benefit others? We could keep going with this series of posts but I will end for now with this question. Your dream will never be completely satisfying if it is built upon your success and all about what you can gain. Does your dream truly benefit others or is it for selfish gain? If your dream is for a bigger house, nicer car, or a better paycheck, it will never be enough.

The American Dream is a lie because we were never meant to find fulfillment in things. True fulfillment comes through relationships! Relationship with God and others. Find something worth doing that will out live you and has eternal significance.
