Leading On Empty

I read Leading On Empty by Wayne Cordeiro while on vacation last week. It is a must read for every pastor. It is a great warning about setting boundaries, staying fresh, etc. Here are some quotes from the book:
  • "Those who vocation is all about giving out are wearing out."
  • "To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it." - Mother Teresa
  • "One pastor told me that preaching each Sunday is like giving birth on Sunday and then on Monday find out you are pregnant again."
  • "Wisdom and understanding are not built in a day; however they are built daily."
  • "Long-term stress is a predecessor to depression."
  • "Problems don't destroy you. Unresolved problems do."
  • "I wonder how much more effective our churches would be if we made the pastor's spiritual health-not the pastor's efficiency-our number one priority." - Philip Yancey
  • "Solitude is a chosen separation for refining your soul. Isolation is what you crave when you neglect the first."
  • "If you had only one month to live, you would be surprised at all the things that really didn't matter anymore."
  • "We won't be held accountable for how much we have done, but for how much we have done of what He has asked us to do."
  • "Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking your potential." - Winston Churchill
  • "In a sense, a pastor never punches out. Of course some may, but for those who see their profession as a calling, they simply can not."
  • "Pastoring people is not a business. It is a life calling."
  • "A leader's greatest asset is not necessarily time. It is energy.
  • "To be right with God has often meant to be in trouble with men." - A.W. Tozer
