Disturb Us Lord

I heard Craig Groeschel preach a message and quote the following prayer from Sir Francis Drake:

"Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore."

Too often we settle for the "American Dream." Get married, buy a house, have kids, buy cars, and then continue to accumulate more and more. I read that 1 out of 11 Americans have a storage unit! We have so much stuff we have to rent a storage unit because we don't have enough room at our house.

My prayer is that we would be disturbed by dreaming so small to think that this is what life is all about.

Think about it: you have never seen a hearse pulling a u-haul trailer behind it. Why? We came into this world with nothing and we aren't taking any of our possessions with us when we leave!

May God constantly remind us to lay up a treasure in Heaven that is a sure foundation. "So that they may take hold of life that is truly life." (1 Timothy 6:17-19)

Disturb us Lord to focus on what really matters in this life as we prepare for the next life.
