I have heard this said on many occasions in reference to ministry. We can become so obsessed about where we need or want to be that we don't enjoy where God has us in this moment.
I can see this in my life when it comes to ministry but also in other areas as well.
For you, it could be:
- I can't wait until our kids get older.
- I can't wait until I get a raise or a better job.
- I can't wait until we get to the next season of life.
- I can't wait until we can get a bigger house or new car.
- I can't wait until I get to trade in my spouse. Ok, hopefully you aren't saying this one. :-) Just checking to see if you were listening.
Too often we are focused on "there" wherever that is for you. It is the mirage. You think once you get to that place you will be happy, complete, or finally "arrive."
Don't buy it! You won't get there until you are faithful here. Start enjoying the moments of life right now. Don't wish your life away. Realize that if you can't be satisfied where God has you now then you won't be satisfied when you get to that illusive place one day.
"As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work." - (John 9:4)
Make the most of today!
