Last Sunday one of the things we shared is that we are moving locations. You can listen to the message right here which I highly encourage if you weren't able to make it. Here are some details and reasons why we are moving.
1) Location Details:
First of all, here is a link to the new location. It is located on Sorrento Valley Road. The road connects Carmel Mountain Road and Mira Mesa Blvd. It is located just west of the 5. We will be meeting at the Coast Volleyball Facility which is owned by the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito. Here is the address: 11526 Sorrento Valley Road, San Diego, 92121.
2) Meeting at a more optimal time:
Our service will begin at 10am instead of 9am. We want to reach people who are not going to church. Every research I have ever read about church attendance says that the majority of people who will attend church will do it on a Sunday morning. The usual time they are willing to attend is between the 10 and 11 o' clock hour.
I make no apologies about wanting to do whatever it takes short of sin to reach more people for Jesus. If us meeting at a later time will help, then let's do it!
I know what you are thinking: "Why don't we just meet an hour later at the theater?" The answer is simple. It would cost us double what we are paying now to meet an hour later because we would be required to buy out shows they would run at that time. It simply is not the wise thing to do with the resources God has entrusted us with.
3) More time after the Service:
As I talk to other church planters and pastors, our number one obstacle that many see is our lack of time after the service. We are required to be out of the theater by 10:30am. Yes, you read that right. Our service is currently at 9am and we typically have less than 30 minutes to get all of our equipment out which includes: sound system, preschool equipment, elementary kids equipment, signs, and other resources we provide.
It is crazy but some how for the past year our volunteers have made it happen. We have found it hard though for many new people to connect because it is such a rush after the service.
At our new facility we will have more than an hour to tear down which is over double the amount of time we currently have. It will allow us to spend more time connecting with new people after the service and allowing our regular attenders a chance to connect as well since we are not being forced out.
4) More time options:
At our new facility we have the option to extend our time, rent it for Sunday evening, or even during the week if we choose. It gives us more flexibility AND pay the same hourly rate no matter what time of the day we choose.
5) Signage:
You may be aware but we are currently very limited to signs we are allowed to put up at the theater. We are also not allowed to set anything up on the outside of the theater. We learned that lesson the hard way at our very first service when we tried to set up our cafe table outside the front door of the theater. :-)
At our new location, we will be able to put up a lot more signs. Also, we will be the only ones using the parking lot on Sunday which allows us to implement a parking team, provide front row guest parking, have music playing outside, etc.
6) It's Time to Move
The theater has been good to us but it has been clear to us through much prayer and these above reasons that it is a good fit for us at this time.
Church is about people NOT a building. I never want to get so attached to a building I would not be willing to move if it meant we could potentially reach more people.
I am excited Elevate! The best is yet to come!
